Initiation rites in primitive societies were not merely physical trials; they carried profound social and cultural significance. These rituals served as a vehicle for transmitting knowledge about the tribe's history, customs, and beliefs. Marking a transition into a new social category, initiations could be seen as a “test” of maturity and independence. They allowed young people to navigate the stages of socialization and prepare for the challenges of adulthood, particularly as hunters. Although the specific forms of initiation rites varied across different cultures, their fundamental purpose – preparing young people for life in society – remained constant.uk_UA
