Abstract

Adamovych Sergii. The Experience and Significance of Restoring First World War Military Burials in Ivano-Frankivsk Region. The article analyses and summarizes the activities related to the restoration, memorialization, and scholarly research of burial sites and military objects from the First World War located in the Ivano-Frankivsk region during 2014–2022. The efforts of scholars from Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and activists of the Postupovyy Hurt Frankivtsiv were aimed at overcoming the legacy of Soviet-era suppression and establishing historical parallels between the soldiers of the Great War and today’s defenders of Ukraine. Supported by international grants, an online resource featuring a map of memorials and data on the fallen was created, several military cemeteries were restored, and the conservation of defensive structures from the First World War was initiated. These activities form part of the emerging national memory policy, which affirms the continuous chain of military valor and contributes to shaping a national standard for dignified commemoration of those who have fallen in the Russian-Ukrainian war.
